When Peru and Paraguay met in a friendly game at Trujillo, Paolo Guerrero’s 75th minute effort was the difference in the 1-0 win. Rodrigo Rojas has fouled Miguel Trauco, picking up his second yellow card of the game. The visitors were down to ten men.

Football in Peru has been developing of recent. They play Jamaica in their next game. The friendly game would hold on June 13.

Elsewhere in football’s most iconic rivalries, Argentina defeated Brazil in a superclasico in Australia. Funny enough only 31 percent saw the game the Socceroos played against Saudi Arabia in the crucial World Cup fixture. Continue reading “PERU DEFEAT PARAGUAY, ECUADOR PLAY DRAW WITH VENEZUELA”

POLICE UNCOVER COCAINE WITH LIONEL MESSI PACKAGING

Police in Peru have seized a shipment that contains 1.4 kilogram of cocaine, with packaging material branded with Lionel Messi’s face.

The seized shipment has areported street worth of £73million.

The haul had Barcelona’s ‘M’ logo printed on it, with Messi’s name and face. The shipment even had the royal seal of the King of Spain. The Class A drug illegal shipment was poised to land in Europe before the officials captured it.

Spanish sources El Mundo Deportivo claims the shipment were hidden inside a container that was carrying 1,300 giant squid fillets. There are creative ways through which the exporters hide their illegalities. Last year a fruit wholesale dealer hid cocaine in plastic bananas. The cocaine had a street value of £24milion. The fruit seller hid the drug for Columbian drug lord Daniel Valdes Jaramillo whose nickname was ‘Messi.’ The banned shipment was found in a warehouse in Kent.

The drug business is not affecting football in Peru. The national team side kept their World Cup hopes alive after they defeated their Uruguayan counterpart 2-1. Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez returned from suspension for the game but he could do nothing to save them. Continue reading “POLICE UNCOVER COCAINE WITH LIONEL MESSI PACKAGING”

Peru football must improve

Peru football association said that they are looking for ways to improve the level of their football.

The national team is currently ranked 8th in the CONMEBOL ranking for the World Cup qualification, and the federation wants the team to improve.

Indeed the level of Peruvian football has steadily declined in recent years due to poor management of the football federation.

However, there are signs that the national team is recovering with results of the national team improving. They managed to eliminate Brazil at the latest Copa America in the USA, and they have also managed some good results in the World Cup qualification.

In their last game against Argentina, they were unfortunate for not having won the game after twice leading the match. They only managed a draw against one of the better sides in qualification.

But these results have been relatively rare, and the football federation wants to ensure that they get this kind of result on a regular basis. Continue reading “Peru football must improve”

SANCHEZ SCORES TWICE IN 3-1 URUGUAY WIN

Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez scored twice as Chile defeated Uruguay 3-1 in a crucial CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier.

The forward only just returned from a hamstring injury with the club warning Chile not to risk him. Sanchez played anyway, and he was heavily strapped yet he scored two times in 16 minutes. He received an overwhelming standing ovation when he exited the pitch in the 84th minute.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger warned sternly that playing in the game would be a “suicidal decision” for Sanchez as it might leave him with a more serious injury. Wenger was not ready to risk the striker as it could impact Arsenal’s title chase in a very competitive term. Sanchez’s display will allay the French tactician’s fears going into the game against Manchester United this weekend.

Edison Cavani opened scoring for Uruguay within 15 minutes before Chile got an equalizer just before the recess. Eduardo Vargas’ header did the magic, and Sanchez put them ahead in the 60th minute. He got the second goal as well, sending fans wild. Everyone knew what a victory would do to their World Cup hopes, particularly as they battle Argentina for a spot in Russia 2018. Sebastian Vignolo is of view that Paolo Guerrero hasnt got Recognition in Football World

Sebastian Vignolo, the presenter of a famous Football show on Argentinean TV, is of the opinion that Paolo Guerrero, the skipper of the Peruvian national Football Team, hasn’t got his due recognition in the Football world because of his nationality.

As per Vignolo, if Guerrero had been hailing from a country that is in Europe or even from some other country in South America, but, not Peru, the best clubs in the world would be lining up for his services.

In the words of Vignolo, “Peru doesn’t have a history of producing players who became the best of the generations, like an Argentina or a Brazil has and the league structure of the country is not rated around the world either. That is, maybe, why someone coming from Peru doesn’t fascinate you, but, what I have made of Paolo is that he is world-class and with a different nationality, he might have a Barcelona contract in his pocket by now.”

BRAZIL HOPE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WILL SOLVE SENIOR TEAM FOOTBALL PROBLEMS

Brazil showed the world the power of determination when they won their first ever gold medal in the men’s event in a football tournament at an Olympic Games.

The story is very inspiring, and a nice fairly tale especially with the initial stumbles. The country is now hoping this will translate to a better fate for the senior team currently facing troubles.

After the 1-1 draw in the final on Saturday, the Olympic team coach Rogerio Micale said: “This is a contribution to the national team but the situations are different.” Brazil knocked out their German opponents in a revenge after losing 7-1 at home in the semi final of the last World Cup on home soil, albeit on the senior level.

“It is a seed, the players are young so that is an excellent sign for the future,” Micale added hoping the success will translate to better fortunes for the faltering senior team. However, that future begins on Monday with the national team boss Tite naming his first squad for World Cup qualifiers in Ecuador. Brazil are poised to face the south American country on September 1, before hosting Colombia the following week. PERU MOVE UP IN LATEST FIFA RANKING

The Peru national team moved up several places in the just released FIFA ranking of countries.

The country climbed up 14 spots, likely following from their victory over Brazil at the recently concluded Copa America Centenario at the United States. In the group stage, Peru were not given a chance ahead of the continental tournament but they went on record sterling records.

Peru defeated Haiti and Brazil at the tournament and played a draw against Ecuador. This year’s edition held by Conmebol and Concacaf was in celebration of the centennial edition of the tournament. Based on the decent results at the games, Peru moved up to the 34th position with 765 points. The ranking in the world depends on the team’s total number of point gained from matches over a four year period, according to FIFA.

Argentina ranked number one, despite losing the Copa America final to Chile for the second successive year. Surprisingly, Belgium were still in second place despite their loss to Wales at the quarter final stage of the Euro 2016. Columbia were in third place and Germany followed closely, despite their semi final crash to host of the Euro 2016, France.

Peru has finalized their squad for the Copa America

Peru has announced their final squad for the Copa America which will be taking part in the United States as from the 3rd June.

23 players have been selected by the Peruvian coach Ricardo Gareca. He said that he has chosen the best players at the moment, and he believes that they can go far in the tournament.

Players such as Claudio Pizarro, Jefferson Farfan, and Juan Manuel Vargas are all excluded from the side that will participate in the Copa America since the coach wanted to give younger players a chance to represent their country. This is no surprise since they were not included in the 40-players squad that was announced in April.

This might come as a deception for Claudio Pizarro, who was hoping that he could participate in his last Copa America tournament at 37-years old.

Instead, the coach placed his trust in younger players such as Alejandro Hohberg, Luiz da Silva, Armando Alfageme, Luis Abram and Carlos Caceda, who have yet to make their debut for their country. This is clearly in line with the coach philosophy of not only trying to do well in the Copa America but also build a team for the future. NATIONAL TEAM FOOTBALL IN PERU LOOK BEYOND WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

The men national football team in Peru are preparing for friendlies lined up prior the Copa America coming up this summer.

The team has had a shambolic form in the world Cup qualifying campaign in the CONMEBOL group. Of the ten teams vying for a place at the World Cup finals, Peru lie in 8th position after garnering just four points from the six games played so far.

The team fought hard against Chile but lost at home 3-4 late last year. The loss propelled the team in the next game against Paraguay where they finished with the three points courtesy of a lone goal at home. They faced the last World Cup host, Brazil next but fell to a three nil defeat in an away match that felt the team scarred. They eventually forced a draw against Venezuela during the March international break but Luiz Suarez and Edison Cavani ran riot in the recent victory of Uruguay against the Peruvian side.

The men’s national team in Peru would now focus on the planet friendlies aginst Trinidad and Tobago, and El Salvador next month. This will be in preparation for the Copa America billed to start in June. Continue reading “NATIONAL TEAM FOOTBALL IN PERU LOOK BEYOND WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS”

Peru has a tough road in their 2016 Copa America Centenario group

Peru was pitted against Brazil, Haiti and Ecuador in group B for the 2016 edition of the Copa America Centenario. Making it past this group will not be an easy task as they have tough opponents to face in this approaching tournament.

Ricardo Gareca is the coach of the Peruvian national football team and he has his work cut out. Peru has recently been sustaining a number of defeats as they lost against Uruguay and had to settle with a 2-2 draw when facing off with Venezuela in their latest World Cup South American qualifications.

The first opponent that Peru will play against is Haiti as both sides lock horns on June 4 and the Haitian side made a fairly impressive string of performances during their 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup run where they were placed in group A along with United States, Panama and Honduras.

Haiti was able to secure the 2nd spot and they managed to reach the quarter-finals but were eventually eliminated after losing against Jamaica, but nonetheless Haiti still made a fairly impressive campaign in that tournament as they are showing to be capable of playing at a high level.
